A 24-year-old man is facing substantial criminal charges after he allegedly struck and injured a Minnesota Department of Transportation worker in Minneapolis earlier this month.

Authorities have said they believe the man was drunk at the time of the accident.

According to CBS Minnesota, the 61-year-old MnDOT worker was clearing a mattress off Interstate 94 near 42nd Avenue North in Minneapolis around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2 when he was struck, allegedly by the 24-year-old driver.

The MnDOT worker was rushed to North Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for unspecified injuries. A detailed description of his condition has not been made available, but there has been no indication that he is in danger of losing his life. We wish him all the best as he recovers.

The 24-year-old man has been charged with giving false information to the police, careless driving, open container, not having insurance, driving with a canceled license and DWI.
