In early November, a drunk driver allegedly crashed his vehicle into a St. Paul apartment building.

According to CBS Local, St. Paul officers responded to the 100 block of Wilson Avenue around 10 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5 on a call that someone had struck the building.

Shortly after arriving, officers arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of DWI. He was taken to Ramsey County Jail. If this man was given a blood-alcohol content test, that information has not been made known publicly. The reason why we mention that is because such tests are important to establish whether someone is in fact drunk. There are plenty of other reasons, like a medical condition, why someone might be driving unusually, and those conditions must be ruled out first.

There were no injuries reported in connection with the crash, and no estimate for the damage done to the building was immediately available.

Although this story sounds unusual, it actually isn’t the first time in recent memory the Twin Cities has heard a story like this. In September, a suspected drunk driver crashed into several buildings in New Brighton before his vehicle came to rest in a swimming pool.

As a Minneapolis criminal defense attorney, I often help clients who have made a mistake and drive after having had too much to drink. This kind of behavior isn’t okay, but we’re all human and we all commit errors in judgment from time to time.
