A 21-year-old man has been arrested following what authorities are describing as a fatal drunk-driving crash.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reported that the police believe the man was driving an SUV in the 300 block of Bernard Street around 2:30 a.m. when the vehicle left the road and rolled several times. Authorities have claimed the SUV went off the road because the man driving it was drunk and driving too fast. However, toxicology results won’t be available for several weeks, so it is too early to say this hunch of their is correct.

The force of the impact sent one of the man’s passengers, also a 21-year-old man, from the vehicle. That man killed by the force of his ejection. It wasn’t immediately known whether he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.

A second passenger, a 17-year-old boy from Mendota Heights, was taken to Regions Hospital with injuries that have been described as non-life-threatening.

A third passenger, a 19-year-old whose city of residence has not been disclosed, allegedly tried to drive the SUV away from the site of the accident. He has been booked into Dakota County Jail on suspicion of underage DWI and failure to stop for an accident that resulted in injury or death.
